IaaS is the future of computing

Written by Lindsay Kintner - November 17, 2015

It is very easy to see how IaaS is the future of computing and exciting to see that Aeonix easily fits into this environment.

This year was the first year Tadiran attended Amazon re:Invent in Las Vegas, NV and it was definitely an eye opener. The event was held in the Mirage Convention Center and was attended by over 19,000 people. The first night of the Exhibition Hall at re:Invent reminded me of a New York City subway platform as rush hour. The aisles were back with people looking at the different booths.

It was the fourth year for the Amazon event. Listening to the keynote and sessions by many companies it very easy to see why cloud computing, Software-as-aService (SaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) is growing as quickly as it is. Amazon stated their year after year growth is over 80% and the projected revenue for Amazon AWS in 2015 will be around $8 billion USD. There are over 132 software vendors, in 35 different categories with over 2,300 applications for customers to use.

At Enterprise Connect, most of the attendees are telecom personnel who are expanding their influence into data or IT. At re:Invent most of the attendees were developers using Amazon AWS services or companies learning how to take advantage of expanding computing environment. The advantages of IaaS are very obvious. In traditional computing as soon as your purchase an on-premise server, your cost increase with maintenance contracts, environment (air conditioning, power and backup power) and eventually server replacement. With IaaS, there are no environmental cost, servers are maintained by Amazon (or other companies like Google, Microsoft, etc.) and customers can spin up additional or larger computing environments in minutes.
